Salesmanship
Salesmanship is the art of influencing another person to persuade him to buy a specific product. It may be regarded as the process of winning the confidence of consumer. It is a method of arriving at a common point of view with the prospect in regard to the desirability of same article, service or idea. It also refers to convincing a customer using certain techniques to buy a particular product. It creates demand for new products or new brands. It influences a person to change patronage from one source of supply to another, resulting in concentration of purchase of specific product.
As it wins the buyer's confidence, so it help to make regular and permanent customers. The person engaged in convincing the public about the need or desirability of patronizing a specific product is called the Salesman. He informs the customers about the usefulness of a commodity to induce him to buy. He establishes goodwill in the market for the product he is promoting or selling. He constantly observes the fashion, taste, likes and dislikes of customers and informs the producer about the people’s choice or the latest trend. He helps establish a close relationship between the manufacturer and consumer. The importance of prospecting can hardly be ignored in the modern day business world since it is the method of locating prospective buyers. Moreover, it also serves as the basis in determining the ultimate success of the salesman. A good salesman, in fact, is constantly on the lookout for the prospects whom he can convert into buyers.
